Fusion Custom tools

I have extensive experience with using and creating tools for BlackMagic Fusion, which has quickly become a fundamental part of my workflow across various projects. My expertise includes automating and integrating Fusion into diverse pipelines, solidifying its role as key software in my professional toolkit.

I've developed a wide array of custom tools, macros, fuse plugins, and templates, both for my own use and for other artists. My experience with Fusion is particularly extensive in the context of video games, involving tasks from assembling sprite sheets to configuring texture data for real-time 3D engines.

This page features a selection of some of the tools, plugins, and resources that I've either used personally or developed while working at Designstor. It's important to note that this list is not comprehensive, but it offers insight into the breadth and depth of my engagement with Fusion.

Floyd–Steinberg dithering Plugin

I created a Floyd–Steinberg dithering plugin initially intended as an image processor for a retro video game project. Surprisingly, it has proven to be quite versatile, even becoming the foundation for a data packing tool. This tool enables the packing of four images, each with 256 colors, into a single texture. This process effectively quadruples the final resolution of a texture without significant additional resource demands.

On this page, you'll see examples of the plugin's output, including 2-color and 16-color versions. Interestingly, as the color count approaches 100, it becomes almost impossible at first glance to distinguish the dithered image from the original. The results are quite satisfying, demonstrating the plugin's effectiveness in maintaining visual fidelity while optimizing texture resolution.

Flowfield plugin

I developed a custom flowfield plugin for Blackmagic Fusion, crafted as part of a hobby project to delve into generative art. This plugin is designed to interpret flow information from any given input image, then uses that data to draw an array of lines, with the specifics governed by the plugin's parameters. Capable of handling hundreds of millions of lines, it fully supports animated sequences and is optimized for farm rendering, showcasing its robustness and versatility in creating complex, dynamic art.

Fusion tools

These are a selection Fusion tools I developed at Designstor, showcasing the breadth of our customization capabilities. While this list doesn't encompass everything – such as templates and fuses – it provides a glimpse into the variety and depth of tools we created.

These tools range from simple yet essential features that users might miss in other software, to more complex solutions like advanced grading tools and data management systems. A key aspect of these tools is their rapid turnaround; they were developed swiftly to meet immediate needs and then efficiently deployed across our network using the DS Sync software. This approach ensured that our team always had access to the latest tools to enhance their workflow and productivity.
